Short Story Competition 2019 Shortlist
This is our fourth year of running the Eyrie Press Short Story Competition and we were over the moon to receive a record number of entries! We are incredibly grateful to The Fens Magazine for supporting us (and for agreeing to publish the winner again), to all of you who shared our posts, and especially to those who entered. We have very much enjoyed reading your stories, you creative lot!
The stories were read anonymously by all three of the Eyrie Press directors – that’s me (Jane), John and David. We didn’t always agree! But we did manage to create a shortlist and I am delighted to announce that the writers who have been put forward are, in no particular order:
Cathy Cade, from Cambridgeshire
Jane Cochrane, from Suffolk
Lesley Bowen, from Norfolk
Alan Kahn, from Lincolnshire
Matt Curme, from Lincolnshire
Sonya Hundal, from Lincolnshire
Mai Black, from Suffolk
Linda Murdoch, from Cambridgeshire
Huge congratulations to all eight. We have forwarded their stories to our judges, Sue Welfare and Jon Lawrence, who have the difficult task of choosing the winner. I don’t envy them the challenge and I am in fact rather glad it’s not my job!
All four of the counties eligible for the competition are represented in the shortlist, which is completely coincidental but does illustrate that, with your help, we’re reaching out to the whole area. Thank you!
We’ll be announcing the overall winner on Tuesday 26th November, and their story will be published in the January issue of The Fens Magazine.
If you just missed out on being shortlisted, we thank you very much for entering. We greatly enjoyed reading your work and we hope that you’ll be encouraged to give it another go next year. We’d love to have even more entries and a much harder job!
Happy writing 🙂
